BITS-O-WISDOM: "The person who says it cannot be done should not
interrupt the person doing it." Chinese Proverb.
True Meaning of Mother's Day
What exactly is Mother's Day? It seems to be the day we do mom's chores, but it's not, really. Nope. Instead it's a day we honor mom by taking her (and us) to an overpriced brunch and giving us all yet
one more excuse to overeat. So, since mom's not going to make breakfast, we go out and pay someone else to feed us.
And then we go home and it's over for mom. Back to reality, "Mom! I can't find any clean socks!"
This year remember to give your mom a hug now and then for no reason at all, except to show you care (and not just in May).
Don't Call Me Disabled
Why is it people who've lost their legs can build strength and create incredible physiques when the rest of us say, "Oh, my foot hurts. Now I can't exercise. Maybe something to eat will make me feel better."
I love stories of people who have overcome adversity and excelled in life. Next time you're thinking you can't, take a look at the Disability Sport Pictures for inspiration and then remember to say, "Yes, I can."
Broccoli as Cancer Fighter
Another good reason to enjoy broccoli, it suppresses H. pylori and gastritis which both cause intestinal distress according to a recent study. Lead author of the study, Akinori Yanaka, PhD said eating Sulforaphane rich foods such as broccoli "may even offer some
protection against cancers of the stomach."
Lightly steamed (not mushy) or raw. Toss a couple handfuls washed mini carrots, broccoli and cauliflower florets into a baggie for a portable snack. Do this several times a week and you're on the way to
that 5 a day fruits and vegetables. Remember a serving is half cup of raw or cooked vegetable, so a baggie full is likely two or even three servings right there.
Don't like broccoli? Try other veggies then. An occasional green or yellow thing on your plate won't hurt and really can help, so be brave and go for the color.
One More Bite's Client's Get Results
A recent e-mail:
"I wanted to let you know the EFT is going quite well now. I am working through some of the bigger issues, such as eating when I am lonely or feeling like a pity party. I have not
had a binge since I started. I also worked on the core belief thing and talked myself out of eating some cookies one night. I found that what I really wanted was a hug from my husband so I went to bed
early and snuggled up with him. It felt great not doing the eating thing.
Thank you for all your wonderful techniques, I feel like I can actually do this. Also I used EFT when I was getting angry with my children because of their behavior and it worked I could feel
the anger subside. Thanks again, Barb."
Great to hear, Barb. Thanks for writing. This is a good example of how just using the different techniques throughout your day, not always on food, but sometimes on other things, can also be
very helpful.
Rehydration: LowOz and Homemade Gatorade
Recipe Homemade Gatorade:
LowOz rehydrates your cells in 90 seconds compared to Gatorade's 20 minutes! For the edge in competition, or if you or a loved one are ill, do you really want to wait 20 minutes?
Who Likes What Diet
According to AC Nielsen U.S., in 2005 17 percent of U.S. households reported someone in the household is currently on a low-carbohydrate diet. They went on to report that 19 percent of U.S. households said
someone was previously on a low-carb diet but is no longer.
Design a plan that suits you. Take what you like from any reasonable plan and disregard the rest, so if you like most of SouthBeach then do that, or if you think Weight Watchers has a good idea but perhaps
don't want their pre-packaged foods, hey, no law says you have to eat it.

"Eat This Book, The Last Diet Book" by Billi Gordon and
"You've Had Worse Things in Your Mouth," cookbook by Billi Gordon
Gotta love that title.
Learning the Hard Way: Gardening Not for Sissies
Gardening = Serious Workout
My DH bought a lawn mower then to my dismay he showed me how to use it! I found myself mowing my first lawn and I have to say it was much more difficult than I ever realized. This thing's powered, meaning it will
self propel if you push a lever and I was practically being pulled about the yard. I cut big divots into sections and missed others and all-in-all it looked like a bad haircut. The next day my arms ached
and my legs were covered with bruises so I think it's a better workout than I thought. LOL Resources for Gardening:
DavesGarden.com - huge forum for those new to getting their hands dirty and experts alike. I heard about a big plant sale so I went and bought as many as my car could hold for 80 bucks. Then I went to a local garden shop for a "couple things" and
spent an equal 80 bucks for a dinky box full of plants (mostly herbs).
One herb I found was Sweet Leaf (Stevia), so I'm growing some to see if I can get some sweetener in my yard. That would be great. Did you know licorice root is very sweet? Get some dried root at the herb shop then just a teensy bit in your tea and you'll see what I mean.
I recently brought home a Hoodia plant but may live to regret it. Looking for growing instructions I came upon a few references to how the plant stinks! Hoodia is the plant that purportedly reduces appetite. I've experimented with Hoodia powder for appetite reduction, so thought I'd experiment with do-it-yourself too. It came wrapped in newspaper (no dirt, no rocks,
just the plant), so hopefully it'll survive.

People Who Play With Their Food Create Giant Sno-Ball
Food News: Ben & Jerry's Gets It Right:
Single Serve Ice Cream. Best product design in a long time, and it's so simple: just shrink the size of the container. Ben & Jerry's now has the darned cutest little ice cream single serving (3.6 ounces with spoon included! How
they get a teensy little spoon in there I don't know. IceCreamSource.com
Interesting concept for seriously ice cream addicted. If you don't have access to quality ice cream now you can sample to your heart's content. Shipped in dry ice, so can travel just about anywhere.
No Calorie Food: Wishes From the 70s
True Confession: Talk was there was going to be a low calorie candy bar. Boy, I wanted that, big time. Finally they came out with a low calorie Mars Bar. I finally saw them in the store, and then wham! The taste was horrible and that finally taught me, it's better to
enjoy the good quality, real thing. Eat the best you can find in moderation and you'll be happier for it. That's my motto. ;-)

Diet Pills That Didn't Work
The Pill That Does it All
I never heard of this but an old news item from 2003 caught my eye. It said,"Barbie Drug" Produces Weight Loss, Tanning, Sexual Benefits The story goes that a researcher tried it and lost 10 pounds. It then goes on to say it gives you a feeling of fullness or nausea (sounds
lovely), also, it gives men an er .... rise in their Levis <wink>.

Oops! My Health Assessment script hasn't been working. So sorry. If you sent for the free Health Assessment I'm working on getting
that corrected.
Really Dumb Diet Products
The Anti-Eating Face Mask enters the scene. No joke. You strap it over your mouth and lock it up. No overeating now, that's for sure. And won't you look smart wearing that around town? No mention of who holds the key.
This device was patented, no joke. Read The Slimming Pool blog
post to see the diagram of the Anti-Eating Face Mask . It's a hoot.
