Are White Castle Burgers a Good or Bad Choice to Eat?
Q. I have a question..today I went shopping at Safeway and saw they had "white Castle" burgers in the frozen foods dept. Is that a good or bad choice to eat? Aren't they steamed? and are so tiny. You can see I want it to be all right to eat them LOL But seriously is it yes or no..
A. Well, shoot, my motto is: you can eat whatever you want. I wouldn't probably choose them but that's because if I'm going to eat a burger I want an excellent burger, something a lot better than a frozen one, that's for sure. I want a Stanich Burger or maybe one from Stanfords. Even my local Dairy Queen is excellent. I can't imagine wasting a burger and fries event on a frozen burger, but that's just my preference. I'm sure lots of people would say they are fine.
I think the original idea with White Castle was you would eat about six of them because they are tiny (maybe it was three? I don't know. I never had them). They weren't intended to be a one burger per person deal. So the question becomes, if you buy a box, how many are there and are you going to eat them all?
Just plan it out. It's like those boxes of ice cream sandwiches. Some people can buy them and eat two -- one is never enough but two is fine, but other folks can't help but eat all six (my husband is one of those), so because of that I don't buy them. He'll eat too many and I won't get any because by the time I want one, they're long gone. Another food I never buy is packaged cookies. Why? Because I only want to eat about six of them or a little more than a third of a row, and once you open the package, the rest will all go stale. I don't want to pay the price for an entire package of cookies just for those few.
Why don't they individually wrap the rows like the way they wrap crackers? Then I'd probably buy them on occasion.
For awhile I was getting individual slices of sheet cake which were huge. I'd eat a third, plus a quarter pint of Haagen Daz, and it was just the right amount after my usual dinner.
Unfortunately the person at Safeway who's been preparing these cakes lately puts about a solid inche of frosting between the layers and on top and it's suddenly mostly frosting. I just want the cake, so now I don't buy them.
So, I'm picky. If the cake isn't just right, or the doughnut isn't the way I want, then I don't get it. I can wait until they are the right "look."
If I see something I might want, I just think, is that what I want today or is there something else I'd rather have? It, or something better?
Do I want this now, or something better later? If doughnuts or cookies show up unexpectedly, are they special or could I buy them at the store any day of the week? Ordinary doughtnuts are not worth the bother in my book. Why waste the calories on "average" when I could have something spectacular?
Some things I usually don't eat, such as frozen pizza. My son cooks them once in awhile and they always smell great, but I choose to wait for the real thing. That's how I just don't eat it, even though I easily could. These little things are what add up to my seemingly easy weight maintenance.
If I decide I'm okay with carrying an extra 10 pounds on my body, then I can make the decision to go ahead and have a slice of pizza even though I'm not hungry just because it smelled good. I could eat the store bought doughnuts, etc. All these little things are what add up to that extra five or 10 pounds.
So, I'd say if you want the White Castle Burgers, have the White Castle Burgers. If you want something else, go get that, and enjoy it when you do have it. Make whatever it is be a special treat though, rather than something you have all the time, and it starts to be more fun.
